I don’t know that I’d consider that “rolling coal”. I thought rolling coal was deliberately setting the truck up to blow black, not necessarily for power. This is blowing black simply as a consequence of having 1500hp. Coal rollers are basically dumping fuel into the exhaust for fun. This is different, even if it looks the same.

I figure it’s rolling coal if you are deliberately blowing soot and/or deliberately blowing it on/at people. Most diesels are going to blow some under heavy load or getting spooled. Even my stock injector/turbo setup on the heaviest tune will blow a haze at wot and smoke hard going wot from a stand still.

As someone else has said, this is far from “rolling coal” in the negative term. Rolling coal has become the bro-douche way to dump all kinds of unburnt fuel down your exhaust in a failed attempt to attract members of the opposite and/or same gender.

The truck in the video is making around 1500 HP. The way you do that with a diesel requires dumping all sorts of fuel and air at the cylinders to make bigger explosions. It’s much easier to dump too much fuel at it so you don’t limit your power down the line.

I have left truck and tractor pulls with my eyes actually watering and it’s still pure heaven to me every time.
